How to turn on BitLocker and save the key file

BitLocker is a security and encryption feature built into Microsoft Windows. USC has mandated that all university-issued mobile devices be encrypted. Rossier MIS stores the BitLocker recovery keys for all our assets. The following are instructions to turn on BitLocker and save the file that contains the recovery key information.

 Instructions

  1. Tap the Windows Start button and type BitLocker

  2. Select the Manage BitLocker app from the list of search results

  3. In the BitLocker app select Turn on BitLocker

  1. The following window will ask you how you want to backup the recovery key. Select Save to a file.

  1. Select where you want the key backed up - Save to a file

  2. Please save the file to your documents folder then email it to rsoetech@rossier.usc.edu.
